Making a Living
Rupshibhai Visaria (Sobhag’s Nana, Mother’s father) lived in Nairobi making his living by pulling a cart to transport the goods from the Railway station to various shops. It was very difficult and hard work. Sobhag used to visit him during his school holidays. Sobhag remembers that his Rati Mama bought him a toothbrush and toothpaste for the first time, by then he always used “Datan”, a green stick, as a brush.
One day his grandmother made parathas for him with vegetable ghee and he complained about the ghee to be smelly, his grandfather bought KCC butter for him to have with parathas. His grandfather passed away when Sobhag was 8.
