Sobhag, at the age of 14 he had to travel to Nairobi for his secondary school. He was enrolled in Duke Gloucester School. It was a life-changing experience for him in the city from living in a village. Duke of Gloucester was one of the best and oldest schools in Nairobi. It was built in 1907. Their headmaster was called Sadiq.
He started from Form 1 to 4. Each form had 6 subgroups assigned by letters from A to F. In Form 1 & Form 2, they had normal science and after Form 3, the subjects included science, biology, chemistry and physics. There was a modern section in the school where they were taught wood works as well. They had a newly built swimming pool, the management of the swimming pool was given to senior students. During Sobhag’s senior year, he was assigned to manage the swimming pool. Their canteen was opposite the swimming pool. The students used to gather in the canteen in their recess.
During Form 1 or 2, senior boys form Visa Oshwal boarding called P D Shah used to attend same school. He was a miler who set a record for the fastest runner in miles and hence he was known as miler. Dhiru Shah was a captain of the football team in our school, living at Visa Oshwal boarding school.
