Raichand Virji Immigrated to Kenya
In 1944, Mr Raichand Virji Haria (25) immigrated to Meru (Kenya) from India, with Mr Vrajpar Hadha, Keshavji Kachra(Kali Topi) & Others. They travelled in a Boat. Where he worked as an Accountant in a shop “Meghji Nathoo”, later he was known as Karani. The shop was owned by relatives, Devchand, Govindji and Meghji Nathoo who lived in Nairobi. All relatives lived in a house behind the shop, Raichand was given 2 rooms for his living. In the mid of 1944 his wife Paniben passed away in India.
In 1947, at the age of 28, he got married to Savitaben (13) d/o Rupshi Meghji in Nairobi. On 22.06.1950, Sobhag was born to his parents – father (31) and mother (16). When he was 1.5 months old, Murima (38) his paternal aunt came to Kenya with Navin (7) his brother.
In January 1951, Raichand left his employment and built his own shop and a new house, the whole family moved into their new home.
