Northwestern University Law School Requirements
Students may earn no more than 20 semester credit hours for the number of credit hours required for a Young Women degree by enrolling in the following curriculum options outside of the law school classroom: The school dates back to the University of Chicago, where it began in 1859 as the university`s law department and became Chicago`s first law school. In 2015, the private institution changed its name to Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law to recognize the Pritzker family`s contribution to advancing the school`s mission. Internship courses (also called “clerkships”) offer similar practical experiences, but place students in legal environments outside of law school. Interns typically meet once a week in class and also spend several hours a week in government offices, judicial chambers, non-profit organizations, or businesses. Northwestern Law offers numerous articling courses, including articling period, public interest articling, civil government articling, corporate law articling and criminal law articling. Applicants for the General LLM, Executive LLM, and LLM in International Human Rights Programs must have an initial law degree (e.g., LLB) from a university outside the United States with requirements equivalent to Northwestern or a JD from an ABA-accredited law school. Each year, between 30 and 35 students transfer from other law schools accredited by the American Bar Association. These students join the 2L class in the making in the fall semester. Clinical education has long been integrated into Northwestern Law`s curriculum, with clinical courses first introduced in 1919. In 1969, the school opened its legal clinic with only two lawyers. Today, Bluhm Legal Clinic has established itself as one of the most comprehensive clinical programs in Northwestern Law`s emergency medicine program in the United States. If you are admitted as a transfer student, our Registrar will allow you to enroll in constitutional law during your 2L year at Northwestern. Evaluation interviews can be conducted on-campus, off-campus or through online videos. On-campus interviews are scheduled on select Saturdays in the fall and winter. Candidates complete their interview with a current student, alumnus or admissions officer. I completed a two-year program of study as a part-time student at my current law school. As such, I completed a 1L program that is essentially similar to the first year of Northwestern Law. But I have a lot more credit hours. Can I apply now as a full-time student? Given the relatively short application deadline, we recommend that you set a thoughtful timeline to complete your transfer request well in advance of the deadline. With that in mind, we recommend that you start your application in May, after completing your 1L final exams at your current law school.
