The interpretation of “assignments” that attest to university-level writing (see above) may include, but is not limited to: ENC1101 and ENC1102 are entry points to university-level writing and research and should be understood as an important part of a vertical and comprehensive writing education that covers students` time at university and beyond. These courses provide instruction on the what and how of writing and are designed to teach writing in a way that is transferable to later writing situations. Our first-year writing program is based on guiding principles developed from theory and research in the field of writing science, and draws on the latest empirical research on how students develop as writers. The Joint Program Oversight Committee certifies in good standing any course that can demonstrate that four college-level writing assignments (as defined below) will be part of the course. (In a multi-section course, all sections must meet the new Gordon Rule criteria for the course to be an authorized Gordon Rules writing course.) Learning to write is a complex process, both individual and social, that takes place over time with continuous practice and informed guidance. To write more effectively as active citizens inside and outside the university, students who have completed ENC1101 and ENC1102 should seek additional Gordon Rule courses in their majors, higher ENC courses, research projects, and extracurricular writing opportunities. Students should also take advantage of consultations at the University Writing Center for help working on their writing projects during their time at UCF. • Add the written component (at least 4 written assignments) as an important part – at least 60% – of the final grade.• Demonstrate substantial and developed writing by including at least one multi-page writing assignment.• Include at least one writing assignment where students submit a review in response to feedback on teachers/markers` content. ENC1101 and ENC1102 are Gordon Rule courses and meet half of the writing courses required for the Gordon Rule requirement. A majority of UCF students must complete ENC1101 and ENC1102 with a grade of C- or better to complete the general education program. Questions about AP, CLEP and transfer credits for these courses should be directed to your college`s Bachelor`s Counseling Office, College of Arts and Humanities Student Council, or Office of Undergraduate Studies. The objectives of the UCF General Education Programme (GEP) are to introduce students to a wide range of human knowledge and intellectual effort, to equip them with the analytical and expressive skills necessary to engage in these activities, to develop their ability to think critically, and to prepare them for lifelong learning.

Bachelor`s degree students at UCF must meet several requirements to earn a bachelor`s degree: For the purposes of the Gordon Rule review, the University of Central Florida defines “college-level writing” as follows: A new bachelor`s degree requirement that requires students to demonstrate civics skills. For more information about the Gordon rule request, see the UCF catalog. • Testing• Reports• Lab Reports• Written Exams• Portfolios• Exams• Case Studies• Manuals• Answers to Discussion Questions• Process Documents• Project Plans• Business Plans• Research Papers• Interviews• Diaries• Feasibility Studies• Evaluated Drafts• Contributions to Online Discussions.
