The title “Advocate” is reserved for any person who is not a Vakil and who is admitted to practise in the High Court. The title “vakil” is reserved for a person admitted and authorized to practice under the rules of the legal practitioner. The term “lawyer” is used to refer to either a lawyer or a vakil. The Lawyers Act does not prescribe the forms in which lawyers may practise. Short title This Act may be called the Lawyers Act.2. (307) “Minister” means the Minister responsible for Justice; `semi-public body` means: (a)a body established by or pursuant to a written law other than the Companies Act; [Ch. 212] (b)a trade union registered under the Employment and Industrial Relations Act; [chap. (c)a company registered under the Companies Act, the issued share capital of which belongs to at least fifty per cent of the State, a local authority or a semi-public body or, if the limited liability company is limited, a company for which the State, local authorities or semi-public body holds an amount, as a member who has undertaken to: in the event of dissolution of the company, pay a contribution amounting to at least fifty per cent of the total amount to which all the partners have committed; and references to a semi-governmental organization in this paragraph contain references to such a corporation; [chap. (212)`certificate of professional examination` means a certificate issued by the Registrar to a lawyer authorising him to practise as such in Tanzania in accordance with the provisions of Part VI; “Registrar” means the Registrar of the High Court; `compensation committee` means the committee established under Part VIII; `roll` means the list of lawyers kept in accordance with the provisions of Part IV; »; “Tax Officer” means the Chief Tax Officer of the High Court. (287] (d)the registrar, the deputy head, the Public Trustee, the official trustee, the Commissioner of Lands and any duly qualified person holding a position as a registrar, deputy head, official trustee or land officer; (e)any suitably qualified person holding a position in a semi-governmental organisation; that the Minister may exercise by means of a regulation published in the Official Journal for the purposes of this section. 3.
