The Phoenix Municipal Court is the largest court in the state with limited jurisdiction and is among the ten busiest urban courts in the United States. The court deals with cases ranging from minor traffic violations to Class 1 offences that carry a maximum sentence of six months in prison and a fine of $2,500. Each year, the court handles about 160,000 charges.
